Summary

MHL Consulting revised and re-stamped the electrical drawings for Trinity A.M.E. Church, a three-level church in Pittsburgh after PLI asked that occupancy sensors be shown on the lighting plans. The original drawings were drawn by an outside drafter who was no longer available, and the owner’s contractor asked MHL to complete the response from the existing PDFs. The building has a 120/208V, 3-phase, 4-wire system with an existing 200A service.

Problem / Objective

The permit was held up by a correction comment, and the person who drew the set could not make the change.

Process

  1. Researched PLI requirements, including IECC 2021 section C405.2 for automatic lighting controls and NEC 2020 under the Pennsylvania UCC (May 2026).

  2. Sent a jurisdiction brief and flat-scope proposal; the client approved the same day.

  3. Added occupancy sensor symbols to the basement, main level and mezzanine lighting plans (sheet E100) and updated the symbol legend.

  4. Corrected a note that cited “NEC 2021 C405.2” to the correct IECC 2021 reference, and updated code editions in the general notes (sheet E000).

  5. Ran a cleanup pass on the set to reduce the chance of a second comment.

  6. Delivered re-stamped PDFs for upload to OneStopPGH (May 28, 2026, with a final revision June 2, 2026).

Payoff / Results (Metrics)

  • Occupancy sensor correction answered on all three levels

  • Code reference error caught and fixed before resubmittal

  • Four-sheet set (E000, E100, E200, E300) delivered ready for upload, with E200 and E300 unchanged

  • Final set returned within about a week of approval

When this applies

A contractor, owner or church administrator in Pittsburgh with a PLI correction on a commercial electrical permit, especially one asking for lighting controls under IECC 2021 C405.2, or one where the original drafter is unavailable. It also maps to any Pennsylvania UCC project needing a PA PE to revise and re-seal existing PDF drawings.
